This story held so much promise for an extraordinary journey, potentially launching an entire series featuring Mike and Otto and even Ethan and Stacy. Instead, I was left grappling with unanswered questions—Will Jesse and Viola navigate their relationship amidst the relentless job pressures? I found myself yearning for more depth and connection.

So, why the 4-star rating? It wasn’t quite a 3 either, which is why I rounded up, recognizing the effort and potential within the story that, unfortunately, never fully materialized. The writing was excellent, with clever prose that flowed effortlessly from one scene to the next; however, I craved more conflict and yearning. The stakes felt low throughout the series, and the emotional depth that I hoped for was largely absent. It felt too tidy, lacking the raw edges that often make great stories memorable and impactful.

If you weren’t already enamored with Des, you will undoubtedly fall for him after experiencing this narrative. Is this book necessary? Absolutely; it’s vital for a deeper understanding of him. Additionally, it unravels intriguing details about Maliki and his unwavering loyalty to Des. Much of what you discover will surely resonate in the final book. I rated it a bit lower than the others simply because it lacked some depth. If I had the option, I would have rated it 3.50 or 3.75, but Goodreads only allows whole star ratings. I eagerly await the conclusion of this series.

OMG! Just when I thought I couldn’t love Ilya anymore than I already did, The Long Game had me all in my feels. Ilya and Shane are back in this latest story by Rachel Reid, and be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected twists and heartfelt moments. Of course, Shane was a selfish prick for most of it, and throughout the story, his flaws are laid bare for all to see. Yes, I said it! Ilya had made so many sacrifices, carrying the weight of his choices alone, while Shane hadn’t given up anything really significant. Ultimately, he has to face up to it all and realize just what he is truly willing to sacrifice to keep Ilya by his side. Ilya himself is dealing with a lot of mental health issues in this story, which adds depth and authenticity to the narrative. I love how the author skillfully navigates these themes, helping to bring down the walls of depression, suicide, therapy, and medication that so many people grapple with in their lives. We also get introduced to the adorable Anya, whose presence brings a lightness to the heavier moments. So cute!!!! Watching them as they maneuver life both in and out of the ring is incredibly heartwarming. The dynamics between the characters are beautifully developed, making readers feel deeply invested in their journeys. I can’t wait for Unrivaled to come out; the anticipation is killing me, and I’m eager to see where their story goes next!
