Laura Thalassa absolutely delivers again with a story packed full of swoony romance, dark intrigue, and just the right amount of heartbreak. This book grabbed me from the first chapter and never really let go. Memnon and Roxilana’s story kicks off when Roxi loses her entire family in a brutal attack, and she’s taken in by a cruel woman in Rome who makes her life a living nightmare. In the middle of all that pain and loneliness, Roxi suddenly realizes she can telepathically communicate with Memnon—yeah, literally hear and speak to him in her mind. What starts off as this strange, secret connection slowly turns into something deeper and so much more intense. Over the years, their bond grows from curiosity and comfort into real love, even though they’re separated and trapped in their own worlds. As Roxi gets older, she starts uncovering who Memnon really is, and at the same time, she’s forced to face the truth about her own power, her past, and what she’s capable of becoming. Of course, nothing comes easy for them. They’re hit with betrayal, impossible choices, and some seriously high stakes that had me nervous for them more than once. Every time it feels like they might finally get a break, something else gets thrown in their way. The tension between them—both emotional and romantic—keeps building, and you’re constantly wondering how they’ll survive all of it together. And that ending? You will not see it coming. It’s dramatic, a little bit ruthless, and it sets up so much for what’s next. I’m already dying to pick up the next book and see how all these threads and characters are going to tie together across the series.
