OMG! Just when I thought I couldn’t love Ilya anymore than I already did, The Long Game had me all in my feels. Ilya and Shane are back in this latest story by Rachel Reid, and be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster ride filled with unexpected twists and heartfelt moments. Of course, Shane was a selfish prick for most of it, and throughout the story, his flaws are laid bare for all to see. Yes, I said it! Ilya had made so many sacrifices, carrying the weight of his choices alone, while Shane hadn’t given up anything really significant. Ultimately, he has to face up to it all and realize just what he is truly willing to sacrifice to keep Ilya by his side. Ilya himself is dealing with a lot of mental health issues in this story, which adds depth and authenticity to the narrative. I love how the author skillfully navigates these themes, helping to bring down the walls of depression, suicide, therapy, and medication that so many people grapple with in their lives. We also get introduced to the adorable Anya, whose presence brings a lightness to the heavier moments. So cute!!!! Watching them as they maneuver life both in and out of the ring is incredibly heartwarming. The dynamics between the characters are beautifully developed, making readers feel deeply invested in their journeys. I can’t wait for Unrivaled to come out; the anticipation is killing me, and I’m eager to see where their story goes next!
