Troy and Harris are definitely one of my top favorite couples in the Game Changers series! I totally adored their story. Plus, it’s a bonus that my fave Russian hockey player makes a cool appearance. The plot revolves around Troy Barrett, who just got traded to the Ottawa Centaurs after playing for the Toronto Guardians, where he kind of built a bad rep for his homophobic comments. But here’s the twist—Troy’s been hiding behind that behavior because he’s grappling with his own sexuality and dealing with the fallout from calling out a former teammate and buddy for sexual assault. Then there’s Harris Drover, the openly gay social media manager for the team whose job is to help fix Troy’s image. I was really into this book for a bunch of reasons. First off, you get to see Ilya in a fresh way, and his interactions with Chiron, the team’s adorable dog, are just the cutest. Plus, the whole team really embraces all sexualities, unlike must teams we’ve met so far. But more importantly, the storyline is all about acceptance and discovering yourself. Troy learns to embrace who he really is and seeks forgiveness for his past. Pride Night is the big moment for him where he owns it all—his past mistakes, his sexuality, and his love for Harris. Such a beautifully written story!
