I had to keep going with the series because, wow, I’m totally hooked now! The storytelling is just brilliantly done. This part really shines a light on the awesome bond between Kyle and Eric, who you might remember from the first book. Eric, fresh out of a divorce and figuring out his sexuality, can’t help but feel attracted to Kyle, a super charming younger grad student and bartender at a local gay bar. Their story kicks off with some cute moments, as Kyle steps in to help Eric tackle the ups and downs of being bisexual, offering him emotional support and a fun friendship. As they hang out more, things start heating up between them, and their feelings turn into something way deeper than they expected. Eric can’t help but think about their age gap, but he’s also feeling hopeful about their connection while gearing up for an action-packed last season as a hockey player, pumped about what’s to come. Meanwhile, Kyle’s all about exploring his crush on older guys, really leaning into the strong feelings he has for Eric. As they get closer, the adventure pushes them to face their insecurities and what society thinks; the story blossoms into a hopeful take on love and identity, making them rethink their ideas about relationships, and ultimately leading to discovering not just each other’s beauty, but also some pretty deep truths about themselves against the vibrant backdrop of desire and self-discovery. Rachel Reid has done it again!
